OEE Calculation Example
OEE calculation is done with a real numerical example. The OEE calculation, however, should not be done just once but several times on a sample or regular basis. 📩 Download the PDF with 20 completed exercises on OEE calculation. Ready, go. ▶ Observation & Data A drill has a planned production time of 400 minutes in one shift. After one shift observation these are the results that have been recorded: Planned Production Time = 400 minutes Stop Time = 60 minutes Ideal Cycle Time = 9 minutes Total Count = 33 pieces Good Count = 31 pieces ▶ Run Time Starting from this data, we begin with the calculation of the OEE. The first thing to calculate is the Run Time. The Run Time is defined as the Planned Production Time minus the Stop Time. In this example, the Run Time is 400 minutes minus 60 minutes = 340 minutes. Having calculated the Run Time, we can calculate the first factor of the OEE. ▶ Availability Availability = Run Time divided by Planned Production Time In this example: 340 Minutes divided by 400 Minutes = 85%. ▶ Performance Let us now turn to the second factor, performance. Performance = Ideal Cycle Time multiplied by Total Count divided by Run Time In this example: Performance = 9 Minutes multiplied 33 pieces divided by 340 minutes = 87.4 %. ▶ Quality Finally, we calculate the last factor, quality. Quality = Good Count divided by Total Count. In this example: Quality = 31 Pieces / 33 Pieces = 93.9 %. ▶ OEE Calculation Well. We now have the 3 factors to calculate the OEE of the drill in the observation round. OEE = 85% multiplied 87.4% multiplied 93.9% = 69.8% Clearly, observation on a single shift does not tell well which factor is the main factor that could lower the OEE and therefore more observations should be made in order to have a more meaningful value. Thank you for watching this video and if you would like more examples of calculation of OEE, in the description you will find the link to download a PDF with 20 exercises that will help you learn perfectly how to calculate OEE.
