Backstroke 2x1x2 With Blades & Fins
Backstroke 2x1x2 With Blades & Fins This drill combines single arm backstroke and double arm backstroke into one drill. This drill can be very handy for athletes to work on rotation and establish a great catch position. In this progression, we will be using blades and fins only. The blade will assist in the feel of the water and the fins will allow us to kick easier. Our athlete will be performing two strokes on one side, then a single double arm backstroke, followed by two strokes on the opposite side. During the single arms, the athlete should be aware of even rotation, and their entry point being in front of their shoulder. As the fingertips enter the water, we would look for the hand to change direction and establish a strong pull phase of the catch. Keep pushing the water with the hand close to the surface to the hip and follow through. We would look for these same items on the double arm backstroke and the single on the opposite side. Head position should be just neutral to a slight tuck of the head. We want to watch that the head isn't buried into the chest. Swimmers should be wearing fins with this drill. We like to emphasize the flutter kick being moderate, nothing too crazy. The fins will assist with some speed. Just a steady dosage to go forward. Watch for a natural bend in the knee and ensure that the feet return to the surface! This will lead to a great compliment to the arms! Key Points: -2 Right Strokes, 1 Double, 2 Left -Wear Blades & Fins -Body Position Is Flat -Change Direction Of The Hand After Entry. -Lead The Catch With the Hands -Steady Kick From The Hips (Feet should be at the water) With A Natural Bend In The Knees -Enter In Front Of The Shoulder Pinky First For a more detailed explanation of the drill and things we would look for, check out this video. • Backstroke 2x1x2 With Blades & Fins Key Items Follow me on instagram @swimcoachmike
