The Matthew Lau Signature Mallet From Salyers Percussion
Live from our in house studio in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, Steve Weiss Music sat down with Matthew Lau to talk about his signature mallet series from Salyers Percussion. As a champion of new music and contemporary percussion performance, Matthew Lau requires a mallet lineup capable of meeting the diverse demands of today's repertoire. Modern works often call for performers to move seamlessly between marimba, vibraphone, and a wide variety of percussion instruments, making versatility an essential part of any mallet design. The Matthew Lau Signature Series was developed to provide performers with a flexible and expressive set of tools that can cover a broad range of musical situations. The series consists of three distinct models, including two multi tonal options and one mono tonal model. The red taped model is the softest mallet in the series and features a mono tonal design that delivers a warm, focused sound ideal for lyrical passages and rich fundamental tone. The blue taped model is a multi tonal medium soft to medium hard mallet designed to span the entire range of both marimba and vibraphone. Its versatility makes it an excellent choice for performers seeking a single mallet capable of handling a wide variety of repertoire and performance settings. The white taped model is the hardest mallet in the series. This highly articulate multi tonal design offers exceptional clarity and projection while maintaining a musical sound. It excels in the upper registers of both marimba and vibraphone, where its articulation and singing tone allow notes to speak with remarkable definition. This series is described by both Matthew and Salyers Percussion as a Hybrid series for a variety of both Mallet and Percussion instruments. In this video, Matthew discusses the philosophy behind each model and demonstrates all three mallets across the full range of both marimba and vibraphone, showcasing their unique characteristics and applications. The Matthew Lau Signature Series, along with the complete line of Salyers Percussion mallets, is available now at Steve Weiss Music. #percussion #malletpercussion #vibraphone #marimba #salyerspercussion #steveweiss @MatthewLaumusic @SalyersPercussion
