Deuteronomio 1:9-46 - ISRAEL PUESTO A PRUEBA
DEUTERONOMY 1:9-46 Deuteronomy 1:43; And I spoke to you, but you did not listen; instead, you rebelled against the command of the Lord and presumptuously went up the mountain. Moses recounts the early days after leaving Sinai and how the entire nation betrayed God and were punished by not being in the promised land. However, there were exceptions: Joshua, Caleb, and the children of the entire nation would inherit the land. 1. MOSES ASKS FOR HELP 1:9-18 God's promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky was being fulfilled, and upon leaving Egypt and before receiving the law at Mount Sinai, Moses realized that the people had to be organized (Exodus 18:13–27). Forty years later, he recounted this event to remind the nation that upon entering the Promised Land, they would have to maintain the same just organization and not fall into anarchy or unjust administration. According to Numbers 1:45–46, there were 603,550 men who could go out to fight. Demographers say that with women, children, and the elderly, the total number of Israelites in the desert would be close to 2 million (like Piura). What individual could attend to them alone? Furthermore, the people were quite problematic. The answer is “no one,” and the solution would be to delegate to wise and experienced leaders. a. Chiefs over you: A general term that literally means heads. b. Commanders of thousands: Captains focused on their military duties. c. Governors: Scribes or overseers linked to their political role. d. Judges: Indicating their judicial responsibility, whose characteristics should be: Justice; Impartiality; Recklessness and Submission. When they entered to occupy the land, they would have to maintain their equitable and just organization so that the people would prosper. 2. THE MISSION OF THE TWELVE SPIES 1:19-25 Upon arriving at Kadesh-Barnea (near Canaan), God told them to enter and take possession of the land, but the people decided it was better to send twelve spies to scout the land. A bad decision! Because this demonstrated a lack of faith. 3. THE UNFAITHFULNESS OF THE PEOPLE 1:26-33 This is how they REBELLED and MURMURED and LOST THEIR FAITH, becoming filled with fear. They forgot God's promises and focused on their reckless enemies. Moses tried to encourage the people to look back at what God had already done for them in Egypt and the desert, to believe, and not to be afraid. And he used irony to remind them that God had acted on their behalf as a SPY, through the pillar of fire by night and the cloud by day. 4. GOD PUNISHES UNBELIEF 1:34-40 God was displeased with the people for their unbelief and swore that they would not enter the land promised to their ancestors. However, we find three exceptions: Joshua, Caleb, and all the children who were innocent of their parents' sins, who were sent back to the desert to die there. 5. CONSEQUENCES OF UNFAITHFULNESS 1:41-46 When the devastating judgment was announced to the people, the Israelites realized their great sin and responded with an immediate confession (we have sinned against the Lord) and showed themselves ready to go into battle immediately. But it was too late by then, because God had already decided to punish them. Dear friend, are you willing to submit to God's authority? Do you believe God's promises? What happens in your heart when you see adversity coming? Do you strengthen your faith? Are you living in unbelief? Because the end of unbelief is death. Will you be like Joshua and Caleb and believe God?
