Similarities are drawn to the hiatus Manon is taking from KATSEYE. I explain the trainee process Lexie (Sweden), Samara (Brazil), Emily (United States) and Sakura went through on the Japanese survival show World Scout: The Final Piece and the controversy that came up from this new lineup. The group was previously a trio named Prelude, formed with the girls from The Debut: Dream Academy training program who didn’t win the competition on Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy. Aired on streaming platform Abema, the new audition series took place in Tokyo and Los Angeles, California as 25 trainees from across Japan competed to be the final member of Saint Satine. Through K-Pop style training, they were evaluated by Kpop idol judges from groups like Le Sserafim and Illit along with American coaches like Lauren Jauregui of Fifth Harmony. Some young women were on entertainment shows before like Produce 101 Japan The Girls (J-Pop), China’s Produce Camp Chuang Asia Thailand (C-Pop & T-Pop), and South Korea’s Girls’ Planet 999 which produced popular idols like Huening Bahiyyih of Kep1er. With Lexie announcing this sudden exit before the group debut, I analyze the statements released on social media and Weverse by the label and Lexie herself. Business ethics in terms of profit and industry exploitation are discussed. This includes early brand sponsorships like luxury perfume brand Kayali and Shark Beauty hair straightener. I also touch on their more sexualized style being criticized as too mature for their new member Sakura.
