Today we’re putting two very different .380 ACP philosophies head-to-head: Traditional internal hollow point (Underwood XTP, 90gr) External hollow point / fluted design (Underwood Extreme Defender Platinum, 68gr) One is designed to expand. One is designed to never expand. So which one actually performs better? If you’ve followed my Bodyguard 2.0 testing series, you already know I’ve leaned toward the XTP in the past — but this test forced me to re-evaluate some assumptions. What we’re doing in this episode Using a layered defensive test setup: 2 layers denim 2 layers t-shirt 2" clear ballistic gel 1/4" MDF (rib/bone analog) Additional clear ballistic gel We fire: XTP through barriers Extreme Defender through barriers XTP into bare gel Extreme Defender into bare gel Then we cut the gel block open and compare wound tracks side-by-side. No hype. No marketing claims. Just data. The real question In .380 ACP — where velocity is marginal and expansion is never guaranteed — are you better off with: A bullet that tries to expand?
