Ozone Alpina 5 - Thermalling the flats from Nelson's

This video replaces an almost identical one that I uploaded yesterday. In this video, I included some footage that Paul shot of my launch. Mike, Paul and I took a chance and hiked up to Nelson's In the 105° f heat. We thought if we got up there before the afternoon thunderstorms screwed with the wind direction, solar heating would drive thermal cycles up the west side and we'd be able to launch, even though it was pretty much a calm day as far as synoptic wind, with a bit of light east at times. Although I offered to let the other guys launch first, they insisted I go, perhaps because they had never flown Nelson's launch. That was their mistake, because I caught probably the last decent cycle of the day. They ended up having to hike down. 😬😥 I almost dirted out early, but caught a week thermal over the flats and managed to get up to a decent altitude of 6500 ft, which was 700 over launch; enough to try the "milk run "over to the entrance of the main Franklin Mountain State Park headquarters. Almost made it, but the lee-side conditions were not conducive for XC and I ended up landing short, packing up and hiking down to trans Mountain Road where I caught an Uber back to my car.
