The Everest Marathon - the world's highest marathon

The Everest Marathon has been running almost every year since its inception in 1987. This is the documentary of the 1993 edition organised by Diana Penny-Sherpani's company, Bufo Ventures, and sponsored by Reebok. The 26.2 mile course took runners from the starting line at Gorak Shep, at an altitude of 5,140m and not far from Everest Base Camp in Nepal, to the finishing line at 3,444m in the Sherpa capital Namche Bazar. The winner with a time of 4hr 03min 29sec was the Swiss athlete Pierre-Andre Gobet, afffectionately known as PAG, who beat the Nepali runner Hari Rokaya on home soil into second place by an astonishing 17 minutes. The video, written and presented by Richard Uridge, was produced and directed by the late Ron Isles latterly of Dream Team Television.
