Historians Alexander Kolpakidi and Oleg Airapetov examine the highly politicized and nationally oriented history of international relations. Competing concepts are aimed at whitewashing their own state by shifting responsibility to opponents. The 1930s were marked by a series of military conflicts in Africa (the Italo-Ethiopian War) and Asia (Japan's attack on China), which foreshadowed both a European and a general world conflagration.
