It is divided into the true pelvis (below the pelvic brim) and the false pelvis (above the pelvic brim), with the true pelvis being most relevant for childbirth. The true pelvis consists of three planes: inlet, midpelvis, and outlet, each contributing to the passage of the fetus. The four major pelvic typesโgynecoid (most favorable for vaginal delivery), android, anthropoid, and platypelloidโaffect the mechanics of labor ๐ฉบ. During normal labor, the fetus must navigate through these planes by undergoing the mechanisms of labor, including engagement, descent, flexion, internal rotation, extension, and expulsion ๐ผ. Proper alignment between the fetal head and the pelvic dimensions is essential for smooth delivery. Pelvic adequacy is assessed clinically or via imaging, especially in high-risk cases like cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD). Any mismatch between the fetal head and maternal pelvis may necessitate interventions such as instrumental delivery or cesarean section. Understanding the maternal pelvis is vital for safe and successful labor management. ๐โจ๐ฉบ #NormalLabour #MaternalPelvis #ObstetricsLectures #LabourMechanisms #SafeDelivery #PregnancyCare #FetalWellbeing #MedicalEducation #MBBSNotes #StudySmart #PelvicAssessment #BirthAnatomy #ObstetricCare
