Pygmy Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia pygmaea) in the Wild with the Biotope Aquarium Build

These little Rainbowfish are a popular addition to any tropical aquarium, but not much is known about them in the hobby. These little Rainbows originate from the upper reaches of the Prince Regent River in the Western Kimberley of Western Australia where they are known to inhabit only a couple of creeks in the upper reaches, normally a pretty arid region that is sparse luckily for them it's in the northern tropics where they get a good amount of rainfall in the wet season. Not very accessible mainly by helicopter and boat to the lower reaches that are teaming with Saltwater Crocodiles most that visit are tourists getting a helicopter ride to the upper reaches to cool off in the pristine waters. Thanks to some collectors these were introduced into the hobby some years ago and are quite easy to breed like most other Rainbowfish, we can now all enjoy them. Thanks for watching and I hope this video helps you with some ideas on their setup.
