Lumbar hyperlordosis is a condition in which the natural curve of the spine in the lower back is excessively increased. The spine has natural curves that help cushion the pressures of physical activity and maintain the body's balance. However, when these curves are exaggerated, they can cause pain, discomfort, and mobility problems. Lumbar hyperlordosis is characterized by an increased curve in the lower back, which may be accompanied by a decrease or increase in the curve in the mid-back, resulting in a hunched or straightened posture. 👉 WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF LUMBAR HYPERLORDOSIS? Several factors can contribute to the development of lumbar hyperlordosis, including: 1- Imbalance in muscle tension: Increased tone in the iliopsoas and diaphragm when there is excessive tone in the respiratory muscle chain (hyperlordotic) creates traction on the lumbar spine, which can lead to hyperlordosis. 2- Obesity: In some cases, excess weight can increase pressure on the spine and cause a greater curve in the lower back. 3- Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the shift in the center of gravity and weight gain can increase the curvature of the lower back. 4- Spinal injuries: Spinal injuries, such as certain types of fractures, can lead to increased curvature of the lower back. 👉 ARE EXERCISES EFFECTIVE FOR REDUCING LUMBAR HYPERLORDOSIS? If you are looking for scientific evidence on how exercises can help treat this condition, here are some references. Fortunately, several studies have shown that exercises can be an effective tool for treating lumbar hyperlordosis and improving spinal function. A study published in the "Journal of Physical Therapy Science" in 2016 found that an exercise program significantly reduced lumbar curvature and back pain in participants with lumbar hyperlordosis (Park et al., 2016). Another study published in the Journal of Exercise Rehabilitation in 2019 compared the effect of exercises with conventional treatments such as the use of back braces and electrotherapy. The study found that the exercises were more effective in reducing lumbar curvature and back pain, and improving spinal function in patients with lumbar hyperlordosis (Kim et al., 2019). Furthermore, a systematic review published in the Revista Española de Fisioterapia in 2020 analyzed 11 clinical studies that evaluated the effectiveness of exercises for treating lumbar hyperlordosis. The review concluded that the exercises are effective in reducing lumbar curvature and back pain, and improving spinal function in patients with lumbar hyperlordosis (Pereira et al., 2020). In summary, the scientific evidence shows that exercises are an effective tool for treating lumbar hyperlordosis and improving spinal function.
