In a joint interview, Martín Balza and Juan Martín Paleo supported the appointment of Carlos Presti as Minister of Defense, but agreed that his inclusion in the cabinet opens a necessary discussion about the institutional "appropriateness" of an active-duty military officer assuming a political position. Both asserted that "it is not prohibited for a member of the armed forces to be a minister," but that it would be "more institutional" for them to do so from retirement. Balza warned that dismissing a military officer for such a position is "a lack of consideration" and recalled that Argentine democracy has been sustained by both civilian and military participation.
