Kasturi Tilakam - Nicki Wells

This Shloka (ancient Vedic hymn) c.1220 describes the attributes and qualities of Lord Krishna. It is widely recited in temples, classical dance and devotional music. This version was adapted by Pt Arun Apte who used Raag Jaijaiwanti to associate the Raag, Deity and colour (blue) to the Vishuddhi Chakra, (the energetic centre that controls the thyroid and parathyroid glands). Chanting this Shloka is said to facilitate a peaceful meditative state and to purify the Vishuddhi Chakra associated with pure consciousness, speaking truth (Sat), diplomacy and pure self expression. Nicki Wells teaches the Shlokas and other forms of Indian Classical singing.
