Since my return flight was earlier than expected, I was looking for a destination with easy access from the airport and discovered "Katayamazu Onsen." Located just a 20-minute drive from Komatsu Airport, Katayamazu Onsen is one of the hot spring towns in the Kaga Onsen area, offering peaceful views of the beautiful Lake Shibayama (Shibayamagata). It’s an up-and-coming area where a nostalgic townscape and retro atmosphere meet modern redevelopment. Since popular tourist spots are crowded everywhere these days, this was the perfect "hidden gem" of a hot spring town to relax and fully enjoy a solo trip 😊 To get around, I used the "CANBUS," a loop bus that circles the Kaga Onsen area. It covers all the major highlights, so it's highly recommended for anyone who wants to sightsee without renting a car 🚌 (The number of buses is limited, so please plan your schedule in advance). 【Spots Visited in This Video】 ●Komatsu Kabule A community free space located at Komatsu Station. Local food stalls open here, making it a great place to wait for your train. ●JA Kaga Agricultural Products Market "Genkimura" A local farmer's market stocked with fresh vegetables and local seafood. ●Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) Rennyo-no-Sato Awara Located right on the border of Awara City (Fukui) and Kaga City (Ishikawa), this roadside station offers a wide variety of souvenirs. It also features a restaurant serving local cuisine and is surrounded by great sightseeing spots. ●eXcafe Yoshizaki Hōō-kaku A stylish cafe whose main branch is in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Here, you can enjoy Japanese traditional sweets while taking in the stunning panoramic view of Lake Kitagata. ●Okada Liquor Store A local liquor store where you can buy "Yome-odoshi," a rare local sake named after a famous local legend. This hard-to-find sake is only available at this store and through hometown tax donations (Furusato Nozei)! ●Katayamazu Onsen "Nostalgie Komichi" (Nostalgic Alley) A retro alley lined with old-school signs that bring back memories of Katayamazu Onsen's bubble-economy era. A very popular photo spot for anyone looking to take cinematic, retro pictures. ●Aizenji Temple A temple built on a hill where you can enjoy beautiful views of Lake Shibayama and the Hakusan Mountain Range. The "Anywhere Happiness Door" (Dokodemo Shiawase Door) on the temple grounds is a must-see! ●MaxValu Express Katayamazu If you love exploring local supermarkets while traveling, this is the place to go. ●Lake Shibayama & Ukimido Pavilion The iconic landmark of Katayamazu Onsen. The lake is famous for changing its color seven times a day. ●Katayamazu Onsen Soyu (Public Bathhouse) A public bathhouse newly built on the site of a demolished old facility. The modern, glass-walled building is incredibly impressive. The "Machi Cafe" on the second floor is a perfect place to take a break while enjoying a spectacular view of Lake Shibayama. I work full-time while handling domestic chores, and I love taking relaxing getaways between my busy days by utilizing points and airline miles.
