WU BBE and WU WiSo entrance exams: two paths, one goal. Watch this if you are starting your studies!

Dear followers, in this video, which Georg kindly agreed to participate in right before his summer vacation road trip to the US, we talked about so many things that are relevant for students who are just starting their academic journey. Georg was my student in 2023 and then we randomly met in 2025 at a business conference, and this meeting led to me finding out about all the amazing things he is working on and has achieved so far, and long story short, here we are sharing words of wisdom with you. I hope this video will help you make smart decisions during your study life and achieve your goals! Georg from Austria. WiSo student 00:22-01:36 Georg’s WU application story. BBE and WiSo 01:37-02:19 Flexibility and freedom during studies at WiSo Here the main difference is that the way the bachelor’s are structured is slightly different. At BBE you have 240 students and at WiSo 2703 students. At BBE you have specializations, at WiSo, on top of choosing your specializations you also choose one of the 5 possible paths. At BBE once you choose a course, you automatically agree with the pre-set exam date, at WiSo most courses have 3 exam dates every 2 months as far as I have heard, and also at BBE you usually have at least 50-80% attendance requirements, whereas at WiSo, some lectures are not required to be attended at all, especially in the STEOP (intro) stage (note: there are usually more students than spots, so be sure to register super quickly). 02:20-02:46 WiSo. Order of courses. You can pick any course in any order 02:48-03:42 The 5 paths to choose from in WiSo. Great to figure out what you want to do if you are still a bit lost 03:43-03:44 Gravity at work ahaha 03:45-05:00 Continuing the discussion. A little stereotype here “students who do not know what they want to do, go for business/economics” ahaha 05:01-05:55 A bit more about Georg’s story & IT background 05:56-07:13 Specializations at WiSo and a funny story about how we met in person with Georg 07:14-08:19 Different paths in life. BBE first appeared in 2018. Technical difficulties. Cutoff score of WU BBE in 2025 08:20-09:31 A bachelor’s is still a bachelor’s. Once you complete your master’s degree/acquire work experience, it slowly shifts to the end of your resume 09:32-10:24 A little comment about the law course at the beginning of WiSo (STEOP) & the number of attempts you have to pass a course (4-5 times, so yes, really hard to get kicked out ahah) 10:25-12:31 No matter what, you will very likely find the maths&economics topics you learnt for the BBE or the WiSo entrance exam useful during your studies (if you pursue any degree related to economics) 12:32-15:05 When you study for the entrance exam/s you practice the learning style that you will have at uni (spoiler alert: it requires self-discipline) 15:06-16:47 WU WiSo. More exam-study time at the beginning. More of a balanced-grade approach later on 16:48-18:02 Learn how to use your free time during your university years wisely! 18:03-18:45 You will be surrounded by quite a lot of motivated and hardworking people (+honest student life joke ahaha) 18:46-20:28 Life is all about starting&trying&gathering (work) experience (with proof like pokemon cards ahah) 20:29-22:02 Use university years to figure out what you want to do in the future (and ofc dont forget to have some fun while doing so) & WU’s entrepreneurship center 22:03-23:27 BBE free time. A lot of it or no? +A little distance learning flashback 23:28-25:00 WiSo and BBE specializations & free electives. Mixing and matching (+a kid crying, he saw his future of studying econometric models and doing hypothesis testing ahahha) 25:01-28:30 Maths and coding at WU BBE vs WU WiSo 28:31-29:10 A little vent about the overuse of ChatGPT nowadays in learning 29:11-32:22 Learning from your mistakes in social situations & how to present yourself (+WU tuition fee) 32:23-33:33 You can always google something theoretical if needed, but you cannot google social skills;) 33:34-35:35 You never know when your accomplishments are going to be relevant (maybe sooner, maybe later). Georg’s story 35:36-38:18 Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Learning how to solve problems & how to not have an existential crisis after finishing your studies 38:19-39:56 How scary can trying something new out really be? Dont be afraid of redirection (or social anxiety) 39:57-42:03 Motivational speech from Georg & Maria Teachie 42:04-44:12 Advice to your “past” self from Georg. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, let things turn out how they should (+uni isnt as intimidating as you think). Don’t rush & panic about doing everything all at once Quote of the day: Take it seriously but not too seriously. It is part of your life, but not your life!
