“It doesn’t belong just to the Chinese, it’s kind of a present for all the people.” Wu Wei is a virtuosic performer on the sheng, a Chinese mouth organ. Michael Fuller, double bass player with the Philharmonia Orchestra, finds out how his desire to find a role for himself and his instrument beyond geographical and musical borders led him from Shanghai to Berlin, and from listening to his father playing traditional Chinese melodies to creating new music with composers and orchestras from around the world.
