China and Japan, two major East Asian nations and the world's second and third largest economies, are neighbors with a complex relationship stemming from the painful history of World War II and overlapping territorial claims over islands in the East China Sea. This has resulted in a strained relationship between China and Japan. Attempts have been made to mend relations through trade and investment, but the old wounds remain unhealed.
