We Don't Clap Here

Everything I make is a love letter. 'We Don't Clap Here' is one I have held tightly to my chest for a very long time. Endless thanks to my wonderful poets and interviewees, without which this movie would not be possible, and to the incredible Sweaty Wednesday. I made this scrappy film between 2023 - 2025, learning as I went, and the people I've gotten to know through this world mean so much to me. The spoken word scene in Birmingham is something so worth documenting, I never wanted to stop. I never wanted to put the camera down. Someday, when I can once again wade through the hundreds of hours of talent, spirit, and humanity, the true film will be born. For now, have the dissertation cut. Twenty minutes of three years of our lives. I love and miss you Birmingham, thanks for the everything. Written, produced and directed by Evie Wright, 2025.
