Immersed in the middle of a temperature deciduous forest pond in western Kentucky during the winter solstace of 2025. The pond was created around 1972 as a source of material for construction of the Biological Station. The pond is home to a wide variety of aquatic invertebrates, herpetofauna (frogs, salamanders, turtles, snakes), but only has two species of small fish. The pond is 0.7 hectares in size and has a very small watershed. The pond fills in the spring and does not completely dry.
