Mountain movement masterclass- with Guide Chris Ensoll
20 years ago I was climbing, mountaineering and fell running. But other commitments grind you down and despite regularly hill walking, I was acutely aware if a loss of' form' in the hills. This is amplified when the ground gets steep and dangerous. Anticipating doing my mountain leader this year, I needed to get that form back. Plus, I do gait analysis for a living, so I wanted to learn new skills that I could apply to my patients. Enter the movement masterclass. I enjoyed a quiet wildcamp the night before, at the camp I trialled a new water filter, the Salomon XA soft flask. Early on the next morning I walked down to join the class. at 5:36 Chris was enthusistic and excellent at getting you to rethink the way you move over rough ground. Using positive reinforcement and demonstrating 'the way to do it', Chris analysed our movement over progressively more challenging terrain. Whilst it may not look it , some over those steps over sharp rocks were hard! There were grazes and soakings, but Chris kept us motivated and working hard. He discussed the psychology behind a good posture and showed us how we should move so that we can go back and relearn, coming back ready to show others. For me and others doing this course it is a challenging process, forcing you to look at your own strengths and weaknesses on many levels. The ultimate aim though is to progress to moving up and down varying steep ground with poise and confidence. In Chris's own words being Strong, Steady, Fluid and Dynamic. https://www.chrisensoll.com/ Chris's summary of the course and many great tips are on his own channel: • Movement 1: the basic concepts Sharons books, (easy Lakes walking with big dogs) Mistys guides www.Facebook.com/mistysminiguides
