We don't pay attention to many traumas because we tend to consider trauma to be something grand, something we'll never forget. But in reality, most traumas are those small, repetitive situations, or those that occurred at very delicate moments. Many traumas can even stem from situations that were seen as positive, either at the time or later. A classic example is the child who was spanked as a child and now, as an adult, claims it was necessary for him to learn important concepts about life. But what the person doesn't realize, nor does they associate it with, is that their self-discomfort and low self-esteem are a result of those beatings. A child doesn't stop loving the adult who spanked them, but they stop loving themselves. WHAT IS TRAUMA? It's a painful experience that overloads your nervous system, making it impossible for you to cope. That's why childhood is the most delicate time. Our brain needs security, and every situation that made you feel in danger and you didn't feel able to protect yourself left a mark that influences your feelings and behaviors to this day.
