#churcheswithhistory Inside view    • St. Mary's Church, South Perrott, Dorset. ...   South Perrott & Chedington, St Mary's Church. The church of South Perrott dedicated to St. Mary, stands on the south side of the village. The church, dating back to the 13th and 15th century, is built in the form of a cross, consisting of a Chancel, Nave, north and south transcepts and a tower rising from the centre, supported upon four massive arches sprung from original Norman piers. The tower leans to the extent of eighteen inches at the south corner. In 1846 the foundation were thought to be defective, and the course of an examination, it was discovered that a stone coffin underneath the south east pier, perhaps contaning the ashes of the founder of the church, had become crushed and was the curious cause of the deflection, and the foundations were made secure.
