A series of catechisms on the gifts of strength. “Therefore I beg you, brothers: for the sake of God's mercy, .... do not adapt to this age, but BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWAL OF [YOUR] MIND, that you may discern what is the will of God: what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Rom 12:1-2) Today we will deal with SOME OBSTACLES TO RECEIVING HEALING. Here is a small test for the correct, that is, biblical attitude towards illness. 1) Is healing available to everyone? Yes or no? - Yes! 2) Do we get sick so that the Lord may be glorified through it? - No! 3) Does God allow illness to teach us something? - No! 4) Some people say, "God will heal you if it is His will," which is an incorrect statement. 5) The thorn in the flesh of the apostle Paul shows that he accepted the state of illness. - No! 6) Some people believe that we do not need faith in order to receive healing. - No! Focusing on their problems prevents people from receiving healing. They look at the problem, not at its solution - Jesus. They live in fear, not in faith. 7) Stereotypes of thinking about healing A STEREOTYPE is an established pattern of thinking, a superstition, an ingrained attitude towards events and phenomena, developed on the basis of comparing them with internal ideals, which, as a rule, has no direct relation to reality. After all, a stereotype is a misconception. A) One of the stereotypes that exists among Christians is the statement that illness is God's grace. “Jesus suffered and I must suffer.” They often say: we have to get used to this illness. B) Many Christians believe that illness is God’s grace and feel unworthy to ask for and receive healing from God. They have a great sense of guilt and reason like this: “I am a sinner to whom the Lord gives grace to suffer, to bear the cross of illness. My illness is God’s punishment for my sins. This is my penance.” Thus, they refuse to ask God for healing. C) Many Christians believe that illness is a cross that the Lord has sent me, but when you read the Gospel, it is full of descriptions of Jesus’ healings. If Jesus considered illness to be grace, would he have healed the sick? The view of God, who sends suffering and misfortune as grace for people, is not a biblical view and has nothing to do with following Christ.
