Rangelands - Regenerative Grazing Workshop, with Colin Seis and Alejandro Carrillo, May 2025.

In May 2025, regenerative grazing workshops were held across three South Australian regions — the Mallee, the Rangelands, and the Hills. This video showcases the Rangelands workshop, filmed at Pine Grove Station, a family-run sheep property in the northern pastoral zone. You’ll also find the Mallee and Hills sessions in this playlist — find the one that suits your landscape best! Colin Seis and Alejandro Carrillo are internationally regarded as pioneers in regenerative grazing, with decades of experience restoring landscapes through livestock management. Colin, hailing from New South Wales, is renowned for developing pasture cropping and transforming his sheep property, while Alejandro has transformed his ranch in Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert — both using holistic management and regenerative practices. This workshop brought them together in the Rangelands for a rare and powerful exchange of ideas. Hosted at Pine Grove Station by Charmayne and Matthew Clarke, this free workshop created a welcoming space for pastoral producers to explore new strategies for grazing and land restoration. We are deeply grateful to the Clarkes for their warmth, generosity, and commitment to fostering a culture of learning in the Rangelands. We also acknowledge the invaluable support of the Arid Lands Landscape Board, whose collaboration was key to making this event possible. Their partnership helped bring together producers, knowledge holders, and community members for a conversation that matters — especially in these dry and variable regions. Through storytelling, practical examples, and deep experience, Colin and Alejandro demonstrated how regenerative grazing can rebuild soil structure, support groundcover, and improve landscape resilience even under tough conditions. Their insights are highly relevant to pastoralists working in low rainfall environments and looking to build long-term sustainability. This event is part of the Perennial Pastures for Drought Defence Project, which supports producers across low and medium rainfall regions with tools for pasture planning, establishment, and grazing management. Everyone is welcome to join this growing community of practice. We thank Colin and Alejandro for their generosity and wisdom, the Clarkes for sharing their station and spirit, and the Arid Lands Landscape Board for their partnership in bringing the workshop to life. Thanks also to the presenters for allowing this session to be recorded and made publicly available.
