Akshay Kumar Not only is Akshay Kumar an incredibly inspiring actor for his choice and versatility of films but also he is a tremendously inspiring person. His self-discipline and simple lifestyle in spite of being part of an industry known for its glamour are so refreshing and motivating. Everyone knows the struggle and the dark side of Bollywood. He believes that there is a secret superstar in everyone. On 9th September, 1967, a young boy was born to a middle class Punjabi family in Amritsar. Rajiv’s father, a government employee, had simple dreams for his son. But Rajiv had a different ambition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t clearly chalked out. He grew up like any other kid, taking fancy to things for a while then moving on to something else. But one thing stayed with him, his love for martial art. He pursued this desire long enough that it became a burning desire. Finally, one day, Rajiv approached his father and expressed what he wanted. His father was not to keen with his choice. Like any father, he believed his son has taken fancy to yet another silly indulgence. So just to dodge the situation, he threw a challenge at his son. If Rajiv clears his Board Exam with good grades, he promised to consider Rajiv’s wish. Now, Rajiv was not much into studies, but he knew he had this one chance to realize his dream. He challenged himself, got out of his comfort zone, dropped all distractions and focused on clearing the board exam. His efforts paid off, and he managed to keep his side of the deal. That forced his father to keep his side of the bargain. Again Rajiv chose not to join any ordinary classes in India. He wanted to learn from the best. He again pitched to his father about going to Bangkok to learn martial art. His father again placed another deal. Rajiv got the funding for his travel, but he was on his own when it came to other expenses. Rajiv had his eyes set on his goals. He didn’t bother much about the hurdles, and agreed. When he finally reached Bangkok, he figured he will have to earn a livelihood to survive there. He had already joined a martial art school, which took lot of time and energy of his. He knew he couldn’t do anything he wanted but will have to settle for what he gets. He took up a job as a Chef at a local Guest House. When he finally, returned to India, Rajiv had already tasted the joy of achieving one’s dream. He wanted to be a martial art expert and became one. Success is addictive in nature and Rajiv was already smitten by it. He set another goal for him, a tougher one this time. Even at this point, he was not clear what he wanted, just a vague idea of where he wanted to be in life. His then friends and acquaintances believed he was chasing an unrealistic dream. But Rajiv had learned from experience – You will eventually get what you strive for. Finally, it was time for him to roll his last dice. Meet the producers. There too the path wasn’t rosy. He was ignored and rejected. His photographer friend suggested him to let go of his most pride possession – his moustache. Rajiv knew he had slogged a lot to achieve his goal. One more sacrifice shouldn’t be a problem. He did it, regretfully though. Here is a man who chose a different path in life. While we usually prefer to remain in our comfort zone, this young man challenged his personal comfort, time and again in pursuit of his dream. He strived, struggled, slogged, and even sacrificed. And then, fate smiled upon him. The world today knows this man as ‘Akshay Kumar’ aka ‘the Khiladi’.
