A TRIP TO TULO-TULO
The deserts in the village of Tulo Tulo in Yusufari local government area in Yobe State is a stunningly beautiful landscape with dreamy palm trees and spectacular sand dunes. Known as the ‘Desert Land of Hope’, Tulo Tulo village sits on the border between Nigeria and Niger. A tree stump separates the two countries. A walk and you are in a different location. With cascading sands and an undulating landscape, it is a terrain impossible for many cars. Quiet. Peaceful. Serene. The aid workers called it ‘a no pressure zone’ because ‘there is no mobile network for endless calls’ it is where you can breathe fresh air and not worry about the every pressures of cities. Home to the Manga, Shuwa, Kanuri, Fulani, Tulo Tulo is a deeply conservative Muslim region, the inhabitants are farmers and cattle rearers. The terrain with its endless land and abundant mineral resources has camels everywhere. Herds of cattle are a common sight.
