Their target was a pirate hideout where two hostages were being held. When neither numerous conversations nor an offer of $1.5 million persuaded the kidnappers to release them, President Obama personally authorized the rescue operation. Shortly after, 24 SEALs jumped out of a plane over Mogadishu and approached the hideout by parachute so as not to alert the kidnappers with loud noises. After landing in a remote area, they stealthily approached the enemy camp on foot for several kilometers. One hostage recalls hearing a strange noise, which her captors also noticed shortly afterward. Warnings were shouted, but by then it was too late. Out of nowhere, elite soldiers emerged from the darkness and turned the camp into a living hell for the enemy.
