It is located outside Zhonghua Gate in Qinhuai District. It is the temple site with the highest specifications, the largest scale, and the most complete preservation in China, and it is also an important part of the Confucius Temple and Qinhuai Scenic Belt. The history here is extremely long. Its predecessor was Jianchu Temple and the Ashoka Pagoda of the Eastern Wu Dynasty, which was the first Buddhist temple in southern China. Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty built the Great Bao'en Temple and the Glazed Pagoda here to repay his parents' kindness. It was supervised by Zheng He and took 17 years to complete, boasting a grand scale. Unfortunately, the original building was destroyed during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement. Today, the Site Park provides a protective display of the thousand-year-old underground palace and precious galleries. There are also world-class national treasures unearthed from the underground palace, such as the stone coffin, iron coffin, the Seven Treasures Ashoka Pagoda, and the golden coffin and silver outer coffin. The iconic Great Bao'en Pagoda is reproduced in the form of a light steel frame glass protection tower, which not only protects the site but also gives it symbolic meaning. Tourists can enter the underground palace for a visit and take an elevator to the top of the pagoda to enjoy the scenery of Jinling. In addition, there are many Zen-themed photo spots here.
