Adding Root Systems to Model Fir Trees
This is about how I add "root system details" to model fir tree trunks. Using three compounds, plus some natural fibers, it is possible to add interesting root systems. Left exposed on the layout or diorama, these are interesting features on up-front trees. This is most often completed prior to adding the foliage, but it can also be done afterwards. I cover mixing the materials (caulk & paint), applying them over fibers that have been glued to the base, and sculpting the thick material with artist's sculpting tools. 11 minutes. Let's get on it!
