COMSOL Plasticity Tutorial: Tube Compression with Rigid Jaws and Contact In this COMSOL Multiphysics tutorial, we simulate the plastic deformation of a metal tube compressed by two rigid jaws using the Solid Mechanics interface. The tutorial demonstrates how to set up contact conditions, define rigid domains, apply symmetry and prescribed displacement boundary conditions, and perform a nonlinear elastic–plastic analysis. The model also highlights the importance of using Form Assembly instead of Form Union for contact problems, creating a structured mapped mesh, and improving convergence using auxiliary sweep parameters and load ramping.
