[4K] 馃嚙馃嚪 Rio de Janeiro Metro | All the Lines

The metro in Rio de Janeiro has 3 lines and moves around half a million people a day. It opened in 1979 and today connects the downtown/ beach areas of the city with a bit of the north. All things considered the metro is a bit small for a city the size of Rio and could use some good expansion like the S茫o Paulo metro. The system gives an illusion of being bigger technically operating 3 lines but in reality Line 4 is completely integrated with Line 1 and Line 2 also shares track with the 2 downtown. Rolling stock on the system is a mix of the original trains from the 70s and new Chinese made stock put into service in the 2010s. The metro connects to all the other modes of transit in the city, most notably the SuperVia at the city鈥檚 central railway station and the trams at multiple stops downtown. It鈥檚 the most expensive metro in Brazil costing over 7 BRL per ride as of January 2025 and offering little to no fare integration with other modes of transport. Nevertheless I believe it to be useful for anyone who finds themselves in Rio since it does connect to multiple points of interest in the city.
