One part of the city was Protestant, the other Catholic. Because of this, Baroque facades dominate one side of the central square, while traditional half-timbered houses dominate the other. This is one of the most interesting architectural features of the city. Another interesting detail is that the history of Oettingen dates back over 1,000 years, and the region itself has been inhabited since Neolithic times. The city was the residence of the Counts and Princes of Oettingen for a long time, which significantly influenced its modern appearance.
