hacked glitchless run:    • The World's Hardest Game 4 hacked/invincib...   unhacked glitched run:    • The World's Hardest Game 4 any% glitched i...   With the new (well, a year old) level 1 coin door skip, it got me thinking about applying the same method to other levels. And sure enough, I very quickly found yet another way to skip the coin doors in L2 and L4. Although they didn’t save time for the regular run, one neat little fact about these new skips is that they didn’t require a deathpause, while every other method so far needed one. This got me thinking about the invincibility mod, where deathpausing isn’t an option. Back in the day, I used to speedrun the hacked version, where invincibility was a toggle, so I could deathpause if I wanted to. After the death of flash, hacked was replaced with a mod where you’re just invincible the entire time. There’s also the “easiest” variant that removes enemies, but in my opinion it doesn’t really work for whg4 since you also have to remove pits and disable drowning. In hacked, going over a pit will preserve the last terrain you touched, which is much more interesting than easiest, which just replaces all pits with normal ground. Anyway, I’m fine with how it’s currently set up, since being unable to die at all does make this run a little more interesting. 0:00 L1 benefits from being able to just walk around the doors in B2, and the conveyors in B1. 1:07 L2 by far the most complicated to route. The general idea was simple: you have to enter A2 while in timestop, which means you have to open a door to the A column beforehand. There’s two options for that, and the fastest by far is the D1 key. Next, there are also two options for loading into timestop: A1 and D2. Both have no keys and 3 or more checkpoints, which fulfill the requirements. Then it’s just a matter of getting the closest cutscene key, which are in C1 and C2 respectively. So after a whole lot of routing and timing, both of these remained competitive. They each had their own strengths and weaknesses and I genuinely couldn’t decide which one I wanted to show more. And then it hit me: why not both? So during the run I do the route that’s slightly faster and slightly harder (ended up losing all the potential timesave to bounces in B1), and afterwards I show off the route that has less menuing and doesn’t even need to restart the game. 2:28 L3 straight forward, and I’m the man behind the slaughter. 3:49 L4 pretty much the same as I’ve already shown before, even in B1 it’s still faster to savewarp despite being able to get the keys super quickly. 5:00 L5 a little sad but also funny that my favorite skip is boiled down to the simplest thing possible, not even a glitch. Of course where this run really shines is the small timesavers all over the place, there’s a reason I ran hacked for so long. Not having to bother with collecting coins makes this run really fast paced and super fun to do, though it’s not as challenging and leans more towards micro optimization hell. I made a bunch of small mistakes this run, but ironing out everything would probably take too long and quickly stop being fun, and this was more of a one time thing anyway. But yeah, having a skip for every level and getting sub 6 makes for a satisfying end of an arc, I guess.
