The Question That Changed How I Explain Recovery
Someone asked me a question on TikTok Live that completely changed how I explain recovery. "What do you offer that AA doesn't?" At first, I didn't know how to answer in a few typed sentences. Then I realized the question itself missed something important. Recovery isn't about finding the one perfect program. It's about understanding yourself. In this video, I explain why I rarely center any single recovery program in my content, how my perspective has evolved over 35 years of sobriety and nearly 20 years as a clinician, and why I believe lasting change comes from understanding stress, habits, nervous system regulation, and human behavior. Whether you're active in AA, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, another recovery community, or simply questioning your relationship with alcohol, I hope this conversation helps you understand why I teach recovery the way I do. If you've ever wondered why this channel focuses so much on executive stress, psychology, neuroscience, and sustainable behavior change, this video is my answer. In this video you'll learn: • Why recovery is bigger than any one program • The difference between peer support and professional support • Why understanding your nervous system matters • How stress and habits influence alcohol use • Why I believe in building a toolbox instead of relying on a single tool • The philosophy behind Sober in the C-Suite® If this video resonates with you, I'd appreciate it if you subscribed and shared it with someone who might need to hear it. ⬇️ Learn more and connect with me: 🌐 Website: https://www.drjorecoverycoaching.com/ 📺 Subscribe: / @drjoexecutivesobercoach 💼 Follow Sober in the C-Suite on Facebook: / sober.in.the.c.suite 👥 Join my free Facebook community: / executive.sober.blueprint.community 📸 Instagram: / drjo_sober_in_the_c_suite 💼 LinkedIn: / recoverytherapist-joanne-ketch #ExecutiveStress #AlcoholFree #Recovery #MentalHealth #SoberLiving #Psychology #Neuroscience #BehaviorChange #ProfessionalRecovery #DrJo One suggestion for the title: I actually think this is stronger than the thumbnail. The Question That Changed How I Explain Recovery It's intriguing, doesn't trigger the AA debate before the click, and matches the hook of the video. I think it'll earn a higher click-through rate than a title with "AA" in it.
