From Homophobia in the Hallways to Making it in Milan. Gay Fashion Designer Plans His Way To Success

Art school. Gay friends. Singing and dancing lessons. It seemed like Kadeem Fyffe had it all as a gay teen. That is, until his religious mother discovered he was gay, resulting in her yanking him out of all his lessons and throwing him into a toxic, bully-fueled environment at a public school. That’s when he realized there was only one way out of his new situation and into an environment where he could thrive as a fashion designer: make a plan. Kadeem Alphanso Fyffe, 29, is a Jamaican-American fashion designer, activist, and public speaker. He is the Founder and Creative Director of the gender-fluid label, MUXE NEW YORK (pronounced moo-shey) - muxenewyork.com - and currently serves as the Head of Design for multiple activewear start-ups. His eponymous RTW label, FYFFE will be launching in Fall 2021. His design work has been featured in People, Cosmopolitan, and USA Today; he was named to Out Magazine’s 2020 Out 100 List.
