Beware: BitLocker & Secure Boot Almost Ruined My System!

I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 7700 CPU to a Ryzen 7800X3D, which I was VERY excited about: until my PC failed to boot up anymore. Instead it gave me a warning about the fTPM records being corrupted, and warning me that if I had BitLocker encryption enabled, I would be locked out of my system. But luckily I never enabled BitLocker encryption, so everything was fine - right? Well, unfortunately not. Somehow BitLocker got turned on without my knowledge - I think it was when I enabled Secure Boot to play Battlefield 6's Open Beta. This required me to reset some factory keys in my Gigabyte BIOS, which I think caused BitLocker to somehow get enabled. Either way, I was VERY VERY close to being locked out my system. Luckily I had the old CPU around, so I was able to recover things. But it was still a worrying process - as I discuss in this video. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The individual timestamps for this video are: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 00:00 This Secure Boot Trend Can Be Bad 01:25 So What's TPM? 02:02 How About Secure Boot? 02:43 BitLocker Encryption 03:10 The Big Problem... 05:24 Why I Had The TPM Corrupt Message 06:17 How I Recovered Things 07:52 Why Can't Windows Do THIS Instead? 08:30 How To Protect Yourself ~~~~~~ Credits ~~~~~~ Thanks to the following resources (sounds, images etc): "Pop-up Sound" by BeezleFM (https://freesound.org/s/512135/ -- License: Attribution 4.0) --- Superheroes To The End by Nicholas Dodd, License ID: mPlmPBnnDWz --- View Finder by Chris Bussey, License ID: RA59Mv425Vo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #SecureBoot #PCGaming #Motherboard
