WHAT IS 4-7-8 BREATHING? 4-7-8 breathing is a structured breathing technique where you inhale for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. The extended exhale relative to the inhale is thought to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of the body responsible for rest and recovery, which is why this technique is commonly used to reduce anxiety and prepare the body for sleep. In this video, each phase is marked by a distinct tone, so you can follow the pattern without having to count. HOW CAN THIS HELP ME?
