LEGANÉS, MAY 13, 2026 / The Leganés Technology Park Urban Development Consortium (Legatec), whose vice president is the mayor, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, has been carrying out a cleanup and debris removal plan in the second phase of the business park since last week, with a total investment of almost 2.2 million euros. In addition, a 24-hour private security service has been contracted to prevent illegal dumping in the industrial park, for a cost of 118,000 euros. The mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, visited Legatec today to see how the work is progressing and stated that “this investment has been made so that the area is in perfect condition for the start of the urbanization works for the second phase of the technology park. This involves more than one million square meters of land that we will make available to companies so they can set up operations in this strategic location in the Community of Madrid.” The cleanup plan will last eight months, as it is estimated that there are more than 40,000 tons of waste in the area. In addition to private security, concrete barriers have been installed to block access from Leganés Norte to those attempting to dump waste while circumventing security measures. The Leganés Technology Park Urban Development Consortium (Legatec) is comprised of 60% ownership by the Community of Madrid and 40% by the Leganés City Council. Its Board of Directors consists of its president, the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Agriculture, and Territorial Planning, Rafael García González; the vice president, Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco; four representatives from the Community of Madrid: Ramón Cubián, Sara Emma Aranda, Ángel de Oteo, and Pedro Corbalán; three from the Leganés City Council: the First Deputy Mayor, Carlos Delgado, and councilors Javier Oporto and José Eugenio Marín; and Luis Enrique García Muñoz, representing Carlos III University. The permanent security service includes monitoring and control at access points; 24-hour internal patrols by vehicle; collaboration with the State Security Forces; inspection of the facilities; immediate notification to the Consortium of any incident to prevent criminal activity; and the preparation of a daily report detailing any incidents that occur. The second phase of the expansion of the Leganés Technology Park (Legatec) includes the industrial and commercial development of 1,094,297 square meters. In its first phase, Legatec already houses nearly 200 companies, many of them leaders in the technology sector, such as Hisparob, Madrid Space, Cedrion, Polar Developments, Sanzar (AgroSpace), Living Lab UC3M, Inrobics, Mercanza, OCCAM Space, Sensia, Power Smart Control, AEQ, Ahyres, Cassini Group Spain, Axter Aerospace, Silcotech, BTESA, Lab AMPL UC3M, Albentia Systems, Solusoft, VTI, and CISET. Legatec is home to the Carlos III University Science Park, with which the City Council maintains a close collaboration to make Leganés an international technology hub. Along these lines, in April of last year, Spain's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster was inaugurated here, comprised of more than 40 companies and institutions related to this field.
