Hello everyone, autumn, overcast, heavy low clouds, and colorful, thinning foliage. And just recently it was hot, we swam in the sea and walked through the mountains in shale sandals! Before my trip to Dagestan, I got my wheels aligned. There's a lot of information online, but I was inspired to do it myself by a video by Artyom (owner of a Sobol 4x4, Ural 4x4, and UAZ 4x4) from the "TECHNICA 4x4" YouTube channel. 1. Jack up the front axle. 2. Use a string to mark the center of the wheel on the outside. 3. Use a level and tape measure to transfer the mark to the inside of the wheel. 4. Measure the distance between the wheels in front of the axle, placing a ruler along the marks. (Artyom used a telescopic (geodetic) ruler; I used two square aluminum profiles, one nested inside the other.) Make a mark on the ruler. 5. Rotate the wheels 180 degrees so that the outer marks line up with the string, and measure the distance between the wheels using the marks behind the axle. This required disconnecting the driveshaft. 6. Measure and compare the distance between the wheels behind and in front of the axle. I got a negative toe-in of 10 mm. 7. Adjust the tie rod. In my case, the tie rod is not the original one, it's reinforced; mine has adjustment nuts. I shorten the tie rod by 5 mm and bring the toe-in to zero. 8. Measure the distance behind and in front of the axle again, tighten the tie rod end pinch bolts, and check the distances again. The job is done, the wheels are installed with a minimum negative toe-in of 1 mm.
