[HOMBURG] – Horror accident! Two dead while fleeing police: BMW flees police checkpoint and crashes into tree – BMW torn into three pieces | Man and woman (both 21 years old) die – Firefighters and rescue workers deployed On Saturday night, a tragic traffic accident occurred on State Road 213 between Homburg-Kirrberg (Saarland) and Mörsbach (Rhineland-Palatinate), killing two young people. At approximately 2:45 a.m., the driver of a BMW sports car traveling from Mörsbach toward Saarland lost control of the vehicle in a right-hand bend. The car broke through the guardrail, overturned, and plunged down an embankment approximately 20 meters deep, colliding head-on with a tree. The car was completely destroyed, and parts of the wreckage were torn apart. The two occupants – a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from Zweibrücken – could only be removed from the vehicle in their original state. An emergency doctor on arrival could only confirm the deaths. According to current information, the BMW had been confiscated from a traffic check by the Zweibrücken police shortly before the accident. The driver fled toward the state border, prompting a pursuit. A few minutes later, the serious accident occurred. Thanks to the automatic emergency call system "eCall," which was activated when the airbags deployed, an emergency call was immediately sent to the control center. The precise location enabled emergency services to quickly locate the accident scene. At approximately 5:50 a.m., an expert was called in to determine the cause of the accident. The fire department supported the work with a drone to document the accident scene from the air. The recovery of the bodies subsequently began. Using heavy equipment, cable winches, and a crane, wreckage was recovered from the embankment and lifted onto the roadway. Screens were erected to protect passersby from distressing impressions. The Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office has ordered the bodies to be impounded. A decision on a possible autopsy at the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Homburg University Hospital is expected at the beginning of the week. The nighttime operation was particularly stressful for the emergency responders. The Kirrberg Fire Department's operations commander described it as an unprecedented situation. Two firefighters had to be removed from the scene due to psychological distress. A debriefing with emergency chaplains is already planned. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
