Gaussian Splatting in OpenUSD: Collaboration Betw... Vincent Caux-Brisebois & Christian López Barrón
Gaussian Splatting in OpenUSD: Collaboration Between the ASWF and the Alliance for OpenUSD - Vincent Caux-Brisebois, NVIDIA & Christian López Barrón, Netflix Animation Studios The ASWF and AOUSD work collaboratively through a liaison agreement to advance capabilities for 3D technologies. In this session, we'll explore how AOUSD’s Emerging Geometry Interest Group is integrating Gaussian Splats into OpenUSD. The IG determined that this family of ideas is categorized as particle fields and will be part of an expanded UsdVol domain. This flexible system allows the particle field to be built much like Legos via applied schemas atop a base typed schema to easily describe future research while also providing a consistent, fully formed schema for specific instances, such as the traditional Gaussian Splat. This talk will detail the rationale and structure of these new schemas for next-generation light field representations. We'll showcase early implementations and share the IG’s roadmap for Gaussian Splatting support in OpenUSD, enabling studios to incorporate this rapidly adopted capture and rendering technique into their production pipelines while maintaining the flexibility and interoperability that OpenUSD provides.
