SIKYI DANCE. The sikyi dance is a vibrant, flirtatious and recreational social dance originating from the Akan people of Ghana particularly the youth of the Ashanti Region of Ghana developed in the 1920s. The dance was designed to serve as a playful avenue for courtship allowing young men and women to socialise and express their emotions and choose romantic partners. Performance and prop It is danced in pairs pr small groups of not more than three. Dancers often hold handkerchief in both hands to enhance their expressive hand movement. Costume. Performers wear traditional garment. The wear small pieces of cloth held by waist beads called Sikyi. LEGONGO DANCE The legongo dance is a unique historic traditional dance of the Buem people who reside in the Oti Region of Ghana. Historically the dance is associated with bravery, community defence and historic celebrations.
