Syncope is a "total, transient loss of consciousness secondary to cerebral hypoperfusion, of brief duration, spontaneously resolving with return to a normal state of consciousness" (European Society of Cardiology 2018). This symptom conceals a multitude of possible pathologies, and high-risk cardiac syncope has a short-term prognosis as poor as that of a heart attack. Management requires: good initial management and proper referral within the hospital system, from the time of calling 911 or a primary care physician, to arrival at the emergency room. a good understanding of the severity factors (ESC 2018), which will be presented here. an excellent diagnostic technique that seeks—first—a cardiovascular etiology (coronary, obstructive, rhythmic).
