The Lost Railways of Oldham
In this video we take a look at the lost railways of Oldham in Greater Manchester. We start at the 1842 line that left Middleton Junction up the famous Werneth Incline one of the steepest inclines in the country at the time. Werneth station was on the outskirts of Oldham the famous cotton spinning town with all its cotton mills. So in 1847 the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway decided to extend the line on to Oldham Mumps station with an intermediate station called Oldham Central. On our walking route we go through two disused railway tunnels and come out in a massive railway cutting. We cross underneath the famous Gas street bridge mad famous in the 1960's film 'A kind of Loving' We have some great footage of the demolition of Oldham mumps bridge and we see how Manchester's Metrolink now uses this route. This is a video about Britain and Oldham's railway history.
