Riding Amtrak's NextGen Acela: America's Fastest... and Most Controversial Train
August 28th, 2025 was a day that I had been looking forward to for nearly 10 years. The Alstom Avelia Liberties, officially known as Amtrak's NextGen Acelas, finally, after nearly 5 years of delays, started carrying passengers along the Northeast Corridor between Washington and Boston at speeds up to 160 Miles Per Hour! In it's first few months of service, this train has certainly been a topic of discussion, both for good and for bad. However, it's good to get your own perspective on these things, rather than just take the word of others, so I took a ride on these new trains to create my own opinion... plus, I had been waiting for these trains since they were announced in 2016, so of course I had to ride them. I will say, the train surprised me... in more ways than one. Let's see how, and see if they praise and criticism is warranted.
