Awesome work Kirby for successfully landing your first kingfish, even though it wasn't big, they still dive just as hard for the nearest ledge and can cut you off just as easily on lighter gear. The drummer was also a nice catch at around 34cm but the same can't be said for the rock cale/cod. I have tried it myself, and Kirby mentioned he had tried it too recently. Let's just say they are better alive in the ocean, than on the dinner plate. I landed a decent salmon that I gave to Kirby for cut bait as they were going on another fishing trip the following day. I made the claim that it was a kingfish when I initially hooked the salmon (and sometimes kingfish don't fight too hard until you get them in close) but I was just being optimistic, hoping by some miracle another one was still circling.
