Using the chronicles of Antonio García Cubas and original musical scores from the period, we reconstruct a night in 1852 that today seems like a dream. It's not just a video; it's a portal to 19th-century Mexico City. I've activated the time machine and I find myself in the Plaza Mayor of Mexico City. It's the night of November 30, 1852. The city is in twilight, the Alameda Central park is closed, and the streets are almost empty. At this hour, only a few passersby are heading to the theater, while night vendors hawk their wares under the arcades. Accompanied by a privileged witness to his time, I wander through streets, cafes, and alleyways that have since vanished. We will listen to the street cries and popular songs of the mid-19th century and attend an opera performance that brings together the most distinguished members of Mexico City society. This video is inspired by "The Book of My Memories" (1904) by Antonio García Cubas. The soundscape is based on scores of street cries and songs that the author himself rescued for us. Finally, we will compare these locations with the Mexico City we walk through today.
