Vacation: Cutting & Splitting Firewood in the Finger Lakes of New York

On a recent trip to Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York state, I brought my Stihl MS280 chainsaw and Homelite electric log splitter. With permission from the rental house owner–and a little help from him, too–I scrounged up fallen trees from his land to make firewood for our evening campfires. The owner even let me use his gas-powered Brave log splitter, John Deere LT155 riding mower, and wagon to move around the wood. I wasn’t familiar with the Brave brand of splitters, but it ran good and was a pleasure to use after the electric splitter. Splitting firewood was a good break from the family and allowed me to get my exercise while having enjoyable alone time that yielded a sense of accomplishment.
