It was established in the year 1461, he kindled an earthen lamp and it has been burning till today, with the help of the priests who religiously refuel it, as and when required. It has a large campus and is one of the oldest namghars in the Assam. Namghar literally meaning Name House, which is associated with a religion named Ekasarana in the state of Assam. It is their congregational place of worship. The namghar is spread over a land having an area of 13 bighas and the complex houses other edifices other than the namghar. All these are maintained with donations given by devotees. The committee sponsors various cultural and social programs all year round as well. 🧿BEST TIME TO VISIT: The best time to visit this namghar is during the winter. Winters set in from end of October and continues till end of March. The weather is pleasant during this time with scanty rainfall or no rainfall at all. 🧿Location: Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar is located very close to National Highway 37. It is around 15 km east from the town of Jorhat and the site enjoys good connectivity via state and local buses. From Jorhat Airport, you can avail the rental cars to reach Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar. These festivities are attended by lakhs of devotees: Paal Naam (পাল নাম) – a month-long festival of worship in the month of Bhada (ভাদ) from mid-August to mid-September Srimanta Sankardeva birth anniversary during the month of Aahin(আহিন) from mid-September to mid-October Madhavdeva birth anniversary during the month of Jeth(জেঠ) from 15 May to 15 June Bhaona (ভাওনা) Mohotsav in the month of Chot ( চ'ত) or Chaitra from 15 March to 15 April Raas lila (ৰাস লীলা) in the month of November 🧿Lamp: The sacred lamp at a Vaishnavite monastery in Jorhat district which has been burning continuously for the past 484 years was yesterday formally recognised by the Asia Book of Records. The lamp, which was first lighted in 1528 in Dhekiakhowa Bor Namghar, has been kept burning since then by the locals of the area. The formal certificate of recognition was handed over to Jorhat Lok Sabha MP and former Union Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique. Scholar Sri Sri Madhabdeva, chief disciple of Assamese saint-scholar and socio-religious reformer Srimanta Sankardeva, had set up the historic Namghar (temple) in 1528 and since then the lamp has been burning continuously. During the certificate handing-over ceremony, Handique said that the ‘Gurucharitra’ written by Sattraadhikar (Chief Monk) of Kamalabari Satra in Majuli Island about 300 years ago had mentioned about the lamp being lit by Madhabdeva. Handique added that the recognition would help in furthering the teachings of the two Vaishnavite saints Srimanta Sankardev and Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva, besides the sacred lamp across the world.
